SeAH Besteel Co., Ltd. (CEO Seo Han-seog) is accelerating its global market penetration through the development of special steel wire rod materials for the energy sector.

SeAH Besteel announced on the 18th that it has developed new materials for special steel wire rod products supplied to the oil and gas industry. SeAH Besteel has been mainly supplying round bars and square bars as special steel materials for oil and gas applications, but with the successful development of materials that can be processed in wire rod form, the company now has an integrated portfolio of oil and gas-oriented special steel materials in various forms, from round bars to wire rods.

The newly developed special steel wire rod material by SeAH Besteel is a material with improved cleanliness compared to existing oil and gas-oriented special steel materials by strengthening deoxidation and desulfurization processes in the refining stage to remove impurities, and optimizing heating temperatures during rolling to maintain material uniformity. In particular, it is characterized by securing high resistance to hydrogen-induced cracking to maintain consistent durability even when in prolonged contact with petroleum containing large amounts of hydrogen.

While special steel round bars and square materials previously produced by SeAH Besteel were supplied to final consumers through intermediate processors, special steel wire rods are materials with improved processability and user convenience that can be applied to final demand industries after only simple processing, so demand is expected to continue to increase in the future.

In fact, SeAH Besteel secured global supply references early at the same time as material development, such as winning an initial order for special steel wire rod materials supplied to global oil makers in January. This order is significant not only for its scale but also as an example of successful collaboration within SeAH, where SeAH Besteel produced the material and SeAH CSS handled the wire rod processing, leading to the final order.
