SeAH Wind wins 1.5 trillion KRW offshore wind substructure order

XXL size substructures to be supplied to Vattenfall's Norfolk Vanguard offshore wind project in sequence until the end of 2027 Second order after Ørsted order... Expected to stabilize local subsidiary early by securing large production volume in advance SeAH's offshore wind power substructure manufacturing technology and competitiveness in the global offshore wind power industry

SeAH Wind (CEO Sohn, Chris), the offshore wind power substructure manufacturing subsidiary of SeAH Steel Holdings (CEO Lee, Joosung and CEO Kim, Taihyun), has won a large order in the United Kingdom, solidifying its position in the global market as a major supplier of offshore wind power substructures.

SeAH Wind announced today that it has been awarded a contract worth approximately KRW 1.49 trillion (approximately £900 million) to supply XXL monopile substructures for the Norfolk Vanguard project, the world's largest offshore wind power project by Swedish state-owned electricity company Vattenfall1.

SeAH Wind will supply the Norfolk Vanguard Project, a large-scale offshore wind farm located 47 kilometers off the southeast coast of the United Kingdom. The total project capacity will be 2.8 GW, which is enough to supply the daily electricity needs of approximately 1.95 million households.

SeAH Wind will supply XXL offshore wind monopile substructures with a maximum outer diameter of 11 meters, a weight of 2,250 tons, and a length of 95 meters to the Norfolk Vanguard Project through the end of 2027.

The monopile substructure products supplied by SeAH Wind have the advantage of being resistant to corrosion, considering the characteristics of the North Sea region with strong flow rates and the fact that the substructure is installed in deep water. In particular, it can support more weight than other substructures, and is expected to continue to grow in demand as turbines and towers are being enlarged to increase the efficiency of offshore wind power generation globally.

SeAH Wind is the only offshore wind monopile substructure supplier in the UK, and is currently building a production plant on a 30,000 pyeong(≈99,000 square meter) site in Teesside, North East England, and plans to start commercial production in the first half of 2025. It is important to secure stable orders when building overseas production facilities due to the nature of the device industry, and SeAH Wind has secured the Norfolk Vanguard project after winning the Hornsea 3 project last year, securing production volumes for the next three years after completion of the plant.

"This large-scale order demonstrates SeAH's offshore wind substructure manufacturing technology and competitiveness in the global offshore wind industry," said Mr. Sohn, Chris, CEO of SeAH Wind. "We will continue to grow into the largest offshore wind substructure manufacturer in the world based on the production plant we are building in the UK."
